Meaning of the coat of arms of the municipality of Ellerbeck
The coat of arms shows a branch with three green, black-edged alder leaves on a yellow background at the top, flanked by a mill on one side and a stylized bell tower on the other. Underneath, in an area also with a yellow background, which is delimited by two black bars at the top and bottom, is the lettering "Ellerbeck" in black. The base of the shield has a blue background and is filled with four stacked waves drawn in blue.
The coat of arms thus shows the name of the community in addition to the lettering "Ellerbeck" as "pars pro totum" through the alder leaves (Eller = alder) and the waves as a small river (small body of water = Bek, Beke or Beck).
In addition, the symbol of the mill explains that there was a windmill in the village until 1912. During excavations on Jan Schürmann's property, the remains of the mill stump were found, which was converted into a seating area.
The stylized bell tower refers to the tower with the fire bell next to the fire station. This bell was not only rung when a fire broke out to call the crew to the pendant with the syringe, but also on all church holidays, as well as at weddings and funerals.
The church in Schledehausen

This church, still without the characteristic southern aisle in the picture, is a Simultaneum. In May 1803, the Protestant and Catholic communities moved into the sacred building together. The Simultaneum ended in 1898 with the consecration of the Catholic Laurentius church.
This is also where the residents of the Schürmanns-Hof were baptized, confirmed and took part in the church service. Many were also married here or found their final resting place in the cemetery. The tombstones behind the white wall in the cemetery appear white in the photo.
From here the brothers Johann Adam and Clamor Wilhelm went to the missionary society in Berlin, in order to then work as missionaries in India and Australia.
